I like action riding, like when we gather for a branding; the horses are breaking back, and everyone's running around real fast. It's a real rush. I think that's what I like, the rush. It does have its grueling side. Some days are the most wonderful in the world, and other days, I'll ask myself, why am I doing this?"

If I had to have a nine-to-five job, go in and be a secretary or do something like that, it would be very hard to handle because I've been so used to handling this up here by myself. It would be rough to have to leave Fish Creek and all my moose. You might as well cut my heart out."

Kathy Miller, Daniel, Wyoming, 1993 "All year round, I get up anywhere between five and five-thirty in the morning. Most of the time, it's a seven-day-a-week job. Those cattle are our kids. My cows are always fed before nine in the morning. I make sure they have enough hay and that they have good shelter, enough water, salt and all the things they need to look healthy and keep healthy. I try to be there to make sure that they don't suffer, especially during calving."

Kathy Miller, Daniel, Wyoming, 1993 "I liked being outdoors. I like the wide-open spaces—you can see for miles. Oh, I love it here. I don't know what else I'd do. It gets real hectic and stressful sometimes. But usually, if it gets real stressful, I can take a day off and go up in the mountains with a horse and just ride around and look at my cows. It's better than taking a two-month vacation. I don't think I could have a job where i was inside all day. I get to the point sometimes where I'd like to spend a day in the house, but one day is all I can handle!"
